Spine Specialty Center
About Our Practice
Dr. Stephen Gipson is the founding member of Spine Specialty Center. He began his medical practice as a faculty staff member of the University of Tennessee Department of Anesthesiology in 1984 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. His practice was solely focused on the field of pain management, which then was not an identified medical field. At that time there were only 3 identified pain management specialist in Shelby county. Soon afterwards he directed the St. Francis Hospital Pain Management Center with several other physicians forming a multidisciplinary team approach.
To expand his scope Dr. Gipson soon afterward he established and directed the Eastwood Hospital Pain Management Center and operated these two entities through the late nineties. He then went into a private practice at the St. Francis medical buildings when he met with Dr. Douglas A. Linville from Campbells Clinic via Washington University spine program. With deliberations on the subject of pain and spine the two doctors decided to establish the Spine Specialty Center in 2000, a practice solely devoted to spine care from C1 to S5. The practice quickly grew and Spine Specialty Center quickly became a place of quality service and integrated spinal care. As the clinic evolved a number of providers were added, some of which moved onward to other positions and physical therapy was added to the plan along with psychology.
Currently Dr. Gipson provides interventional spine care, performing nerve blocks, spinal stimulators and intrathecal pumps as well as palliative care to those who suffer with debilitating conditions of the spine. Dr. Francis Camillo joined the group as an orthopedic spine surgeon along with an interventional radiologist, Dr. Thomas Hodgkiss. Dr. Linville sought opportunities elsewhere in Atlanta. Currently the team of spine providers remain focused on quality, directed, compassionate and comprehensive spinal care. Once you have visited us you will quickly learn that you are in the right place for your spinal issues.
